Pears Poached in Maple Water

This is a delightfully easy dessert that has just the right amount of sweetness from the Maple Water. I have always loved using different liquids to poach fruit in, although I usually use fruit and herbal teas. Maple water is a fairly new product, and as I’m a fan of maple syrup, I thought I’d give it a try. It certainly works in this dish!

Ingredients:

250ml maple water
4 firm pears
1 vanilla pod, split lengthways
1 cinnamon stick
Zest of 1 lemon
Zest of 1 orange
6 cardamom pods, slightly crushed
6 cloves

Method:

You can either cook this dish on top of the stove, or in the oven. If using the oven, pre-heat it to 200C (180Fan) Gas Mark 6.

Peel the pears and halve lengthways. Remove the core (some people prefer it left in).

Pack the pears core side up in your pan or baking dish and pour over the maple water. Sprinkle over the zest and add all the spices. Poach or bake for 20 minutes, turn the pears and repeat.
